The Wellington City Council has initiated workshops among users of the town belt, to discuss how the space is shared.

The last track built on the maunga was an intermediate level mountain bike trail on the eastern side of Mt Victoria/Matairangi, funded by Trails Wellington.

However while approving the track, the council also agreed that no further trails will be constructed on Matairangi.  Instead work would focus on realignment and improvement of existing tracks to increase user experience and to reduce conflict with walkers.

Officers were directed to reassess walking and biking trails on Matairangi, and investigate changing some existing trails to walking only.  Workshops are being held with community and cycling stakeholders.
